And it was indeed full! Three matches on Saturday (two of them as assistant referee) and one on Sunday. Perfect weather, good quality pitches and well spirited rugby matches: what more could I ask for?
On Saturday there was a tournament in Willich, Germany. Three teams were taking part: Willich/Solingen, Bochum/Rheine and ASV Köln III. Adrian Dinca and I were the referees and, as I was going to referee again the next day, we agreed that I would do one match while he would do two, and we worked as assistant refs for each other in all matches. All matches were played in reduced time of 2x20min.
I had the honor to be the ref in the starting match between the home team Willich/Solingen and Bochum/Rheine. It was a well balanced match, which showed up in the final score of 12x14 for the visitors. I had to give two yellow cards, but the teams understood and agreed with the decisions (at least according to the feedback I got after the match).
The results of the other two matches were:
The Sunday match was played abroad (from where I'm standing, of course!). It was a Ducth 4th division game between Bokkerijders and Eilanders. The Eilanders are a new club and did not travel with enough players, but the rugby spirit jumped in and the Bokkerijders lent some players to the visitors so that the game could be played.
The game was pretty one-sided, but was played fairly throughout. The third half was also very entertaining.
My family also traveled to the Netherlands for this match and there was some time to have some fun with the kids at half-time. Everyone enjoyed the weekend, I am looking forward to more opportunities like these to have the family around on my rugby matches!
